Love

The rules for parents are but three... Love, Limit, and Let them be.

Work is love made visible.

One must love the mirror in the face of truth, only if one loves the outlook of your inner compassion.

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet"; and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.

I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the Heart's affections and the truth of the Imagination.

Love of country cannot be a supersized version of individual narcissism.  True love of country--of this country--is love of our children, of a creed that promises them a better life before it promises us anything, and embraces the sacrifices needed to make that better life. True love of country is giving ourselves to a cause and a purpose larger than ourselves.  And that cause is to make liberty worth having, to make the pursuit of happiness deeper than the quest for personal pleasure, and to leave a legacy of progress and possibility. 

One who obeys the will of Heaven will practice universal love.

When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.

Until he has unconditional and unbiased love for all beings,
man will not find peace

Love people.  Use things.  Not vice-versa.

Love is like fresh bread.  It has to be re-made all the time, made new.

Love doesn't make the world go 'round.
Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

Nothing worth doing is completed in our lifetime,
Therefore, we are saved by hope.
Nothing true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history;
Therefore, we are saved by faith.
Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone.
Therefore, we are saved by love.
No virtuous act is quite a virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as from our own;
Therefore, we are saved by the final form of love which is forgiveness.

Practice meditation sincerely and you will realize His infinite grace.  God wants sincerity, truthfulness and love.  Outward verbal effusions do not touch Him. 

Children also need opportunities to practice being less than perfect. They can afford to be ill tempered with us because it is our love that is most constant. This is the essence of unconditional love.... Our steadfast love provides a safe haven.

Tell me whom you love, and I will tell you who you are.

I describe family values as responsibility towards others, increase of tolerance, compromise, support, flexibility. And essentially the things I call the silent song of life—the continuous process of mutual accommodation without which life is impossible.

Love is a force that connects us to every strand of the universe, an unconditional state that characterizes human nature, a form of knowledge that is always there for us if only we can open ourselves to it.

Let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.

With kindness, with love and compassion, with this feeling that is the essence of brotherhood, sisterhood, one will have inner peace. This compassionate feeling is the basis of inner peace.

The communal life of human beings had . . . a two-fold foundation: the compulsion to work, which was created by external necessity, and the power of love.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

To say that God is love is in effect to say simply that love is God.

Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.

Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Love is shown in your deeds, not in your words.

In that process of coming to know that which we name as divine, the God who is love is slowly transformed into the love that is God. Let me repeat that...We breathe love in, and we breathe love out. It is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent. It is never exhausted, always expanding. When I try to describe this reality, words fail me; so I simply utter the name God. That name, however, is no longer for me the name of a being...

We really have to understand the person we want to love. If our love is only a will to possess, it is not love. If we only think of ourselves, if we know only our own needs and ignore the needs of the other person, we cannot love.

"Not that many listen though."
"That's the problem."

Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profundity.
Kindness in giving creates love.

Faith is love taking the form of aspiration.

Live life to it's fullest, love wastefully, and be all we can be.

To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.

The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.
The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference.
The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference.
And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

Hatred never ceases by hatred, but by love.

Ultimate Reality is not clearly and immediately apprehended except by those who have made themselves loving, pure in heart and poor in spirit. 

God is always God, but the views which people and nations may take of him vary.  No higher view is known than that of love.

If for just the time of a finger-snap a monk produces a thought of loving-kindness, develops it, gives attention to it, such a one is rightly called a monk. Not in vain does he meditate. He acts in accordance with the master's teaching, he follows his advice. How much more so if he cultivates it.

Compassion begins at home, and it is not how much we do but how much love we put in that action.  Do not think that love has to be extraordinary.  What we need is to love without getting tired.

Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

We are each other's business; we are each other's harvest; we are each other's magnitude and bond.

The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.

Love is an act of endless forgiveness, a tender look which becomes a habit.

If God is Love and Truth, then in truth and love we shall find Him.  Whether we are His creation or He is ours does not change the nature of the quest.

True love grows by sacrifice and the more thoroughly the soul rejects natural satisfaction the stronger and more detached its tenderness becomes.

And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. 

Flatter not thyself in thy faith in God if thou hast not charity for thy neighbor.

Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls. A joyful heart is the inevitable result of a heart burning with love.
